Anderson leads Slam to 114-91 victory over Titans

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Morris Anderson finished a rebound short of a triple-double as the Bellingham Slam cruised to a 114-91 victory over the British Columbia Titans in an International Basketball League division game at Whatcom Pavilion on Friday.

After the Slam outscored the Titans 27-21 in the first quarter, their defense stepped up and held British Columbia to just 15 second quarter points en route to a 59-36 halftime lead.

The Titans came out a bit more motivated in the second half, trimming the Slam’s lead down to 12 points, at 72-60, before back-to-back scores by Paul Hafford and a buzzer-beating layup by Anderson put the Slam’s lead back up to 17.

British Columbia didn’t seriously challenge in the fourth quarter, with Bellingham maintaining at least a 20-point lead for most of the frame.

Jacob Stevenson led a balanced Slam attack with 20 points.  Five other players scored in double figures, highlighted by Morris Anderson’s 14 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds.  As a team, the Slam out-rebounded the Titans 60-40.

Avery Smith led British Columbia with 24 points, while Lawrence Blackledge posted a double-double of 13 points and ten rebounds, to go along with a game-high four blocks.
